Thursday Music Club 100th Anniversary Celebration Concert on April 17, 2010

The Zanesville Thursday Music Club is celebrating its 100th birthday this year. They are offering a Centennial Celebration Music Concert for the community on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in Secrest Auditorium. The music club is the organization that started the Zanesville Concert Association. It sponsors the Zanesville Handbell Festival, the Civic Chorus & Orchestra and numerous activities for children, youth and adults each year.
The Centennial Celebration Music Concert will showcase most of the activities the music club sponsors each year. The concert will include: handbells, civic chorus, string instruments, trombone quartet, barbershop quartet, vocal solos, piano solos, duets and trios. The concert will present the Rising Stars of the Junior Music Club as young as 2nd grade and teens from the Young Musicians Club. Special music has been commissioned by the music club from composers Lee Afdahl and David Schubach to be premiered at this event. The "Hallelujah Chorus" from "Messiah" by George Frederic Handel will be the finale to the concert with chorus and orchestra. There will also be a display of many of the archives from the past 100 years. Zanesville Mayor Howard Zwelling will present a special proclamtion to the club.
